Short analysis of the poem “Confession” by Alexander Pushkin
Alexander Pushkin wrote the poem “Confession” in 1826 for Alexandra, the adopted daughter of P. Osipova but he never gave her the poem and it was not published during his lifetime.
Pushkin often fell in love and sometimes, he had to suffer from unrequited love which is what he describes in this poem. In “Confession”, the poet undestands the hopelessness of his love, describing his feelings as “unhappy stupidity”
But he also realized that he had fallen in love and compare it to a disease while admitting that his physical and mental state depends of the object of his love and that even the sound of her footsteps makes him lose his mind.
By describing her ordinary everyday activities, Alexander Pushkin shows up that they are important to him, and he is happy by simply watching her. , Last he asked her to pretend to love him which will be easy because “he, himself is happy to be deceived”

Confession by Alexander Pushkin |
| Translated by Akirill.com 10/02/2023 | |
I love you, even though I am mad, |
Even though this is labor and shame in vain, |
And this unfortunate stupidity |
| at your feet I confess! |
| It doesn’t suit me and it doesn’t suit my years… |
| Still, it’s time for me to be smarter! |
But I recognize by all the signs |
The disease of love in my soul: |
I’m bored without you, I yawn; |
I feel sad in front of you – I endure; |
And, I dare not but I wish to say, |
| My angel, how I love you! |
When I hear from the living room |
Your light step, or the noise of your dress, |
Or your virginal, innocent voice, |
| I suddenly lose my whole mind. |
You smile – it’s a joy to me; |
You turn away, that makes me sad; |
For a day of torment, a reward |
| I want your pale hand. |
When you are diligently behind the embroidery frame |
You are sitting, leaning casually, |
Eyes and curls lowered, – |
I am moved, silently, tenderly |
| Admiring you like a child!.. |
Should I tell you my misfortune, |
My jealous sadness, |
When to walk, sometimes, in bad weather, |
| Are you leaving? |
And your tears alone, |
And the speeches together in a corner, |
And the travel to Opochka, |
| And the piano in the evening?.. |
| Alina! have pity on me. |
| I don’t dare demand love. |
Perhaps, for my sins, |
| My angel, I am not worth love! |
But pretend! This look |
| Can express everything so wonderfully! |
| Ah, it’s not difficult to deceive me!.. |
| I’m glad to be deceived myself! |
