Dear readers and subscribers, I’m absolutely delighted to share that I’m finally feeling better, and our regular posts are making a joyful return! Starting around Christmas, we’ll resume our delightful posts about our rescued birds. This week brings the exciting opportunity to share enchanting poems from Anne Charlotte Lynch Botta, James Russell Lowell, and Walt Whitman—some of our most inspiring American poets! We’re also thrilled to brighten our collection with captivating French poems by the talented Tristan Corbière, Gérard de Nerval, and Paul Verlaine. We’re capping it all off with beautiful Russian poems from the remarkable Anna Akhmatova, Fyodor Sologub, and Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva. Additionally, our series on the talented Russian artist Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin continues to inspire, showcasing his breathtaking masterpiece Oak forest. Oh Pacha … et quelques photos de nos oiseaux secourus

Pacha a été terrible ces derniers jours. Tout l’été, il était un corbeau tranquille, profitant du soleil, prenant des bains sous les rayons chauds, chantant de belles chansons qui résonnaient dans la maison, et perdant tant de petites plumes que je pensais pouvoir en faire un oreiller. Mais maintenant que l’automne est là, Pacha s’est réveillé de son sommeil serein. Il est temps de stocker de la nourriture partout, donc il cache des friandises sous les meubles, dans son bac à sable et sur son perchoir, comme s’il se préparait à un long hiver. Il semble fouiller frénétiquement chaque endroit possible pour cacher son butin, fouillant parmi mes affaires avec une détermination presque obsédante. L’atmosphère calme d’autrefois s’est transformée en tourbillon d’activité. Son intense concentration sur la collecte de nourriture est devenue à la fois amusante et quelque peu épuisante, alors que j’essaie de garder une trace de tous les endroits où il décide de cacher ses précieuses trouvailles.

Contrairement à Pacha, Teash, notre petite corneille secourue, continue sa vie comme d’habitude, embrassant chaque jour avec une enthousiasme vibrante. Elle chante pendant des heures (oh mes oreilles !), remplissant la pièce de ses mélodies fortes mais charmantes. Contrairement à de nombreuses corneilles sauvages, Teash ne cache pas sa nourriture ; au contraire, elle apprécie chaque repas à sa juste valeur, demandant plus si elle ne trouve pas sa nourriture préférée (œufs durs). Bien que ce comportement soit certainement bon pour moi, car cela rend le nettoyage plus facile et plus agréable, je m’inquiète souvent de son adaptabilité. Si elle venait à vivre dehors dans la nature, elle pourrait avoir du mal à survivre, car ses instincts pourraient ne pas l’inciter à stocker de la nourriture pour les jours difficiles à venir, et je ne peux m’empêcher de me demander comment elle s’en sortirait dans un environnement naturel…

Oh Pacha … and a few pictures of our rescued birds

Pacha has been terrible this last few days. All summer, he was a quiet raven, enjoying the sun, taking baths in the warm rays, singing nice songs that echoed through the house, and losing so many small feathers that I thought I could make a pillow out of them (Yes, I actually began). But now that the fall is here, Pacha woke up from his serene slumber. It is time to store food everywhere, so he is hiding treats under the furniture, in his sandbox, and in his perch, as if he is preparing for a long winter ahead. He seems to be frantically searching for every possible spot to stash away his bounty, rummaging through my belongings with an almost obsessive determination. The once calm atmosphere has transformed into a whirlwind of activity. His intense focus on collecting food has become both amusing and somewhat exhausting, as I try to keep track of all the places he decides to hide his precious finds.

Contrary to Pacha, Teash, our little rescued crow, continues her life as usual, embracing each day with vibrant enthusiasm. She sings for hours on end (oh my ears!), filling the room with her loud but lovely melodies. Unlike many wild crows, Teash does not hide her food; instead, she appreciates each meal as it comes, asking for more if she doesn’t find her favorite food (boiled eggs). While this behavior is certainly good for me, as it makes cleaning time easier and more enjoyable, I often worry about her adaptability. If she were to find herself living outside in the wild, she might struggle to survive, as her instincts might not guide her to store food for the harsher days ahead, and I can’t help but wonder how she would fare in such a daunting environment…
