Люблю Тебя, Ангел-Хранитель во мгле.	I love you, Guardian Angel in the darkness.
Во мгле, что со мною всегда на земле.	In the darkness that is always with me on earth.

За то, что ты светлой невестой была,	Because you were a bright bride,
За то, что ты тайну мою отняла.	Because you took away my secret.

За то, что связала нас тайна и ночь,	Because mystery and night connected us,
Что ты мне сестра, и невеста, и дочь.	That you are my sister, and bride, and daughter.

За то, что нам долгая жизнь суждена,	Because we are destined for a long life,
О, даже за то, что мы — муж и жена!	Oh, even because we are husband and wife!

За цепи мои и заклятья твои.	For my chains and your spells.
За то, что над нами проклятье семьи.	Because the curse of the family is upon us.

За то, что не любишь того, что люблю.	Because you don’t love what I love.
За то, что о нищих и бедных скорблю.	Because I grieve for the poor and needy.

За то, что не можем согласно мы жить.	Because we cannot live in agreement.
За то, что хочу и смею убить —	Because I want and dare to kill –

Отмстить малодушным, кто жил без огня,	Take revenge on the cowardly (faint-hearted) who lived without fire,
Кто так унижал мой народ и меня!	Who humiliated my people and me so much!

Кто запер свободных и сильных в тюрьму,	Who locked the free and strong in prison,
Кто долго не верил огню моему.	Who for a long time did not believe in my fire.

Кто хочет за деньги лишить меня дня,	Who wants to deprive me of a day for money,
Собачью покорность купить у меня…	Buy dog obedience from me…

За то, что я слаб и смириться готов,	Because I am weak and ready to humble myself,
Что предки мои — поколенье рабов,	That my ancestors are a generation of slaves,

И нежности ядом убита душа,	And tenderness kills the soul with poison,
И эта рука не поднимет ножа…	And this hand will not lift a knife…

Но люблю я тебя и за слабость мою,	But I love you for my weakness,
За горькую долю и силу твою.	for your bitter share and your strength.

Что огнем сожжено и свинцом залито —	What is burned with fire and filled with lead –
Того разорвать не посмеет никто!	No one will dare to tear it apart!

С тобою смотрел я на эту зарю —	With you I looked at this dawn –
С тобой в эту черную бездну смотрю.	With you I look into this black abyss.

И двойственно нам приказанье судьбы:	And fate’s command to us is twofold:
Мы вольные души! Мы злые рабы!	We are free souls! We are evil slaves!

Покорствуй! Дерзай! Не покинь! Отойди!	Submit! Dare (Go for it)! Don’t quit! Move away!
Огонь или тьма — впереди?	Fire or darkness – ahead?

Кто кличет? Кто плачет? Куда мы идем?	Who’s calling? Who’s crying? Where are we going?
Вдвоем — неразрывно — навеки вдвоем!	Together – inextricably – forever together!

Воскреснем? Погибнем? Умрем?	Shall we resurrect? Will we die? Are we going to die?

Short analysis of the poem “Guardian Angel” by Alexander Blok

The poem “Guardian Angel” is a significant piece from Alexander Blok’s early work. Created in the summer of 1906, it may not be as widely known as some of his other poems, but it holds great significance. Through this poem, Blok reveals not only his identity as a poet and an individual but also his Christian faith. This great poem was written on Blok third wedding anniversary and in it, it is important to note that Alexander referred to his wife Mendeleeva as his Guardian Angel, and directs his words to her.
