За мирным Днепром, за горами	Beyond the peaceful Dnieper, beyond the mountains,
Заря догорала светло,	the dawn was burning brightly,
И тепел был воздух вечерний,	And the evening air was warm,
И ясно речное стекло.	And the river was as clear as glass.

Вечернее алое небо	The scarlet evening sky
Гляделось в зеркальный затон,	looked into the mirrored backwater,
И тихо под лодкой качался	And quietly rocked under the boat
В бездонной реке небосклон…	the sky, in the bottomless river …

Далекое, мирное счастье!	Distant, peaceful happiness!
Не знаю, кого я любил,	I don’t know who I loved,
Чей образ, и нежный и милый,	whose image, both tender and sweet,
Так долго я в сердце хранил.	I kept in my heart for so long.

Но сердце грустит и доныне…	But to this day my heart is still sad…
И помню тебя я, как сон —	And I remember you like a dream –
И близкой, и странно далекой,	Both close and strangely distant,
Как в светлой реке небосклон…	Like the sky in a bright river…
