In recognition of his literary talent, Bunin was awarded the Pushkin Prize in 1903 for his book “Falling Leaves” and his translation of “The Song of Hiawatha.” This prestigious award was bestowed upon him once again in 1909 for the publication of the third and fourth volumes of his Collected Works.

However, the political turmoil in Russia forced Bunin to leave his homeland in 1920. He made the decision to emigrate to France, where he continued his literary career and became an integral part of the Russian émigré community.
