Dear Readers and subscribers, I am delighted to share the exciting news that this week, we have expanded our collection of American, French, and Russian poetry with the addition of captivating new poets and their works. Among our latest contributors is the remarkable Alphonse de Lamartine (1790-1869), a distinguished French author, poet, and statesman who played a crucial role in establishing the French Second Republic and preserving the tricolore as the flag of France. Widely regarded as the pioneer of Romantic poetry in France, Lamartine holds a prominent place in the Romantic movement in French literature, and his contributions continue to inspire readers and poets alike.

In addition to Lamartine, we are honored to include Pierre Corneille (1606-1684) in our growing collection. Corneille is widely hailed as the founder of French tragedy and is counted among the eminent 17th-century French dramatists alongside Molière and Racine. His profound impact on French literature and his enduring legacy make his addition to our poetry collection a momentous occasion.

Furthermore, we welcome Henry Van Dyke (1852-1933), a remarkable figure born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, USA. Van Dyke’s versatility as a short-story writer, critic, poet, essayist, journalist, professor, clergyman, and minister has left an indelible mark on the literary world. His works continue to resonate with readers from diverse backgrounds, and we are thrilled to introduce his contributions to our platform.

Last but certainly not least, we are privileged to introduce Nikolai Stepanovich Gumilev (1886-1921), the first husband of Anna Akhmatova and a distinguished Russian poet of the Silver Age. Gumilev’s adventurous spirit, unique poetry filled with exotic lands and brave protagonists, and his eventful life intertwined with significant literary contributions make him a fascinating addition to our poetry collection.

By sharing these diverse poetic treasures, I aim to ignite a passion for poetry across different languages and honor the extraordinary richness of world literature. Your continued support and companionship on this enlightening literary journey are deeply appreciated. Chers lecteurs et abonnés, cette semaine, j’ai continué à travailler sur nos sections de poésie américaine, française, et russe, en ajoutant de nouveaux poèmes et poètes. De plus, j’ai fait une exception et partagé une nouvelle particulièrement choquante pour moi, puisque j’habitais à proximité du pont Francis Scott Key et que j’ai des amis qui naviguent ou conduisent là-bas régulièrement.

Nos 2 nouveaux poètes qui nous inspirent par leurs contributions remarquables à la littérature sont Fiodor Sologoub et Guillaume Apollinaire.

Fiodor Sologoub est l’un des représentants les plus brillants de l’Âge d’argent et du symbolisme russe. À ce jour, sa créativité étonne par son originalité et son ambiguïté. Ses poèmes excitent l’imagination avec leurs motifs mystiques. De même, le poète français Guillaume Apollinaire est estimé comme l’un des plus grands poètes du début du XXe siècle, ainsi que comme un défenseur passionné du cubisme et un précurseur du surréalisme.

En partageant ces trésors poétiques avec vous, j’espère susciter un amour de la poésie dans des langues diverses et célébrer la richesse incroyable de la littérature mondiale. Merci de m’accompagner dans ce voyage littéraire enrichissant.

Dear readers and subscribers, this week I continued to work on our American, French, and Russian poetry sections, adding more poems and poets and made an exception and shared a news particularly shocking to me since I lived close to the Francis Scott Key Bridge and have friends sailing or driving there often.

Our 2 new poets who inspire us with their remarkable contributions to literature are Fyodor Sologub and Guillaume Apollinaire.

Fyodor Sologub is one of the brightest representatives of the Silver Age and Russian symbolism. To this day, creativity amazes with its originality and ambiguity. His poems excite the imagination with their mystical motifs. Similarly, the French poet, Guillaume Apollinaire, is esteemed as one of the foremost poets of the early 20th century, as well as an impassioned defender of Cubism and a forefather of Surrealism.

In sharing these poetic treasures with you, I hope to kindle a love for poetry in diverse languages and to celebrate the incredible richness of world literature. Thank you for joining me on this enriching literary journey.

Il n’y a aucune indication de terroriste pour le moment.

Le pont Francis Scott Key à Baltimore s’est effondré à la suite d’une collision avec un porte-conteneurs. Selon les données préliminaires, le navire a perdu le contrôle et a heurté la structure du pont. À la suite de l’accident, le pont s’est effondré et le porte-conteneurs a coulé.

Nous savons qu’entre 7 et 20 personnes travaillant sur le pont sont supposées être dans l’eau, ainsi qu’un nombre inconnu de voitures.

Certains sont dans un état critique, une opération de recherche et de sauvetage est en cours avec de multiples agences étatiques. Des dizaines d’agences prêtent assistance en ce moment car elles disposent de l’équipement spécialisé nécessaire. Les sonars ont détecté des véhicules dans l’eau, mais malheureusement elle est à 40 pieds de profondeur et influencée par le courant. La marée est en train de remonter. Il fait encore sombre dehors, donc les opérateurs de secours n’ont peut-être pas encore repéré tout le monde.

L’équipage du navire est toujours à bord, et le maire ne sait pas si le navire a prévenu les autorités. Ces dernières n’ont pas encore parlé au pilote du navire. Ils n’ont pas non plus pu confirmer s’il y a effectivement une fuite de carburant du navire. Le soleil se lève à peine maintenant.

C’est une tragédie inexprimable, les gens prient, des recherches actives sont en cours. Il y aura un long chemin à parcourir après le sauvetage.

Les services de secours mènent une opération de recherche de victimes et de survivants. Il est probable qu’il y ait des décès, mais le nombre exact de victimes n’a pas encore été établi.

La chute du pont Francis Scott Key a porté un coup significatif à l’infrastructure de transport de Baltimore. En tant que pont à péage clé, il constituait une artère routière vitale pour l’État du Maryland, reliant les parties est et ouest de la ville. Avec un volume de trafic annuel de 11,5 millions de voitures, il constituait une artère cruciale. De plus, c’était la seule route autorisée à Baltimore pour les camions transportant des matériaux dangereux, leur passage à travers les deux tunnels sous-marins étant interdit. Des calculs simples révèlent l’ampleur du trafic sur le pont : 31,5 mille par jour, 1,3 mille par heure et 22 par minute. Les autorités de Baltimore ont lancé une enquête sur la cause de l’accident. Un comité dédié a été créé pour trouver la raison de la collision du navire porte-conteneurs avec le pont. L’enquête se concentrera sur la découverte des facteurs sous-jacents de l’accident et la mise en place de mesures pour éviter des événements similaires à l’avenir.

Après l’effondrement du pont, les autorités de Baltimore ont intensifié les mesures de sécurité à travers l’ensemble de l’infrastructure de transport de la ville. Elles ont annoncé la mise en place d’inspections approfondies de tous les ponts et structures de transport pour garantir leur sécurité. De plus, les autorités ont exhorté les résidents de la ville à rester vigilants et à signaler toute activité suspecte liée au transport.

I want to wish you all a Happy Fourth of July, and a nice celebration with friends and family. The poem I propose is “An Ode for the Fourth of July, 1876” by James Russell Lowell. An Ode for the Fourth of July, 1876

I

Entranced I saw a vision in the cloud
That loitered dreaming in yon sunset sky,
Full of fair shapes, half creatures of the eye,
Half chance-evoked by the wind’s fantasy
In golden mist, an ever-shifting crowd:
There, ‘mid unreal forms that came and went
In air-spun robes, of evanescent dye,
A woman’s semblance shone preeminent;
Not armed like Pallas, not like Hera proud,
But, as on household diligence intent,
Beside her visionary wheel she bent
Like Aretë or Bertha, nor than they
Less queenly in her port; about her knee
Glad children clustered confident in play:
Placid her pose, the calm of energy;
And over her broad brow in many a round
(That loosened would have gilt her garment’s hem),
Succinct, as toil prescribes, the hair was wound
In lustrous coils, a natural diadem.
The cloud changed shape, obsequious to the whim
Of some transmuting influence felt in me,
And, looking now, a wolf I seemed to see
Limned in that vapor, gaunt and hunger-bold,
Threatening her charge; resolve in every limb,
Erect she flamed in mail of sun-wove gold,
Penthesilea’s self for battle dight;

No praises of the past are hers,
No fanes by hallowing time caressed,
No broken arch that ministers
To Time’s sad instinct in the breast;
She has not gathered from the years

World War II Victory Day we remember

Today we celebrate World War II Victory Day, and I think it is important to remember the damages and destroyed lives caused by this event. World War II was the deadliest military conflict in history and the two countries which suffered the most were the Soviet Union with 24 000 000 dead and the Republic of China with 20 000 000 dead. I hope we will never see something like that happen again.

The act of complete and unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany was approved on May 9, 1945, at 01:01 Moscow time, or on May 8 at 23:01 Central European time, that is why the Western countries celebrate Victory Day on May 8 and Russia on May 9. It was signed on the territory of the defeated enemy in Karlshorst, a suburb of Berlin.

The Axis powers (Nazi Germany, Kingdom of Italy, Empire of Japan) was a military coalition that initiated world war II. It also included the Kingdom of Hungary, the Kingdom of Romania, the Kingdom of Bulgaria, the Republic of Finland, the Slovak Republic, the Independent State of Croatia, and the Kingdom of Thailand.

The Allies, referred to as the United Nations from 1942 (United Kingdom (from Sep. 1939) , Soviet Union (from Jun. 1941) , United States (from Dec. 1941) ) were an international military coalition formed during the Second World War (1939–1945) to oppose the Axis powers. They included Poland (Sep. 1939), Czechoslovakia, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France (Sep. 1939), Ethiopia, Greece, Yugoslavia, the Philippines, the Republic of China, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil, Mongolia, Mexico. Some Axis powers also joined the Allies: the Kingdom of Italy (from Sep. 1943), Romania (from Aug. 1944), Bulgaria (from Sep. 1944), an Finland (from Sep. 1944)

The Allies and Axis membership was fluid, with some nations switching sides or changing their degree of military involvement over the course of the war.

In Europe, the use of the term “the Axis” refers often, solely to the alliance between Italy and Germany, but outside Europe it is normally understood as including Japan.

Aujourd’hui, nous célébrons le Jour de la Victoire de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, et je pense qu’il est important de se souvenir des dommages et des vies détruites causés par cet événement. La Seconde Guerre mondiale a été le conflit militaire le plus meurtrier de l’histoire et les deux pays qui ont le plus souffert sont l’Union soviétique avec 24 000 000 de morts et la République de Chine avec 20 000 000 de morts. J’espère que nous ne reverrons plus jamais quelque chose comme cela.

L’acte de reddition complète et inconditionnelle de l’Allemagne nazie a été approuvé le 9 mai 1945, à 01h01 heure de Moscou, ou le 8 mai à 23h01 heure d’Europe centrale, c’est pourquoi les pays occidentaux célèbrent le Jour de la Victoire le 8 mai et la Russie le 9 mai. Il a été signé sur le territoire de l’ennemi vaincu à Karlshorst, une banlieue de Berlin.

Les puissances de l’Axe (Allemagne nazie, Royaume d’Italie, Empire du Japon) étaient une coalition militaire qui a déclenché la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il comprenait également le Royaume de Hongrie, le Royaume de Roumanie, le Royaume de Bulgarie, la République de Finlande, la République slovaque, l’État indépendant de Croatie et le Royaume de Thaïlande.

Les Alliés, appelés Nations Unies à partir de 1942 (Royaume-Uni (à partir de septembre 1939), Union soviétique (à partir de juin 1941), États-Unis (à partir de décembre 1941) ) étaient une coalition militaire internationale formée pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. (1939-1945) pour s’opposer aux puissances de l’Axe. Ils comprenaient la Pologne (sept. 1939), la Tchécoslovaquie, la Norvège, les Pays-Bas, la Belgique, le Luxembourg, la France (sept. 1939), l’Éthiopie, la Grèce, la Yougoslavie, les Philippines, la République de Chine, le Canada, l’Australie, la Nouvelle-Zélande, l’Afrique du Sud. le Brésil, la Mongolie, le Mexique. Certaines puissances de l’Axe ont également rejoint les Alliés : le Royaume d’Italie (à partir de septembre 1943), la Roumanie (à partir d’août 1944), la Bulgarie (à partir de septembre 1944), la Finlande (à partir de septembre 1944)

L’adhésion des Alliés et de l’Axe était fluide, certaines nations changeant de camp ou modifiant leur degré d’implication militaire au cours de la guerre.

En Europe, l’utilisation du terme “l’Axe” se réfère souvent, uniquement à l’alliance entre l’Italie et l’Allemagne, mais en dehors de l’Europe, il est normalement compris comme incluant le Japon.
