It’s my pleasure to introduce our three talented new poets! Paul Laurence Dunbar was a highly regarded American poet, novelist, and short story writer from 1872 to 1906. He started writing at a young age and gained recognition for his exceptional talent. Dunbar was one of the first African-American writers to achieve international acclaim. In addition to poetry, he made notable contributions to short stories and novels. He also wrote the lyrics for the musical comedy In Dahomey in 1903, which was the first all-African-American musical to be performed on Broadway in New York.
Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) stands as a prominent figure in 19th-century French literature, renowned for his mastery of the short story. He is celebrated as a representative of the naturalist school, skillfully portraying human lives, destinies, and social forces in a disillusioned and often pessimistic light.
Konstantin Nikolaevich Batyushkov (1787-1855) stands as a pivotal figure in Russian literature, renowned as a poet and a key influencer of the romantic tradition during the early 19th century. Often regarded as the literary predecessor of A. S. Pushkin, his contributions also extended to satire, prose, and translation. Additionally, he was a member of the Arzamas society from 1815, adopting the name Achilles.
